Inside the Alex Mill NYC office with ex-J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler
Welcome to retail giant Mickey Drexler’s new Soho headquarters. It’s one part showroom, one part office, and one part doggy day care, thanks to Alan. He’s the furry and friendly office pooch greeting guests at Alex Mill, a rapidly growing fashion brand that Drexler co-founded with his son, Alex.
Despite being the boss, Drexler sits at a table in the open-floor plan, where his desk sports the children’s book “The Little Engine That Could” and a physical “Trend Meter.” The former CEO of J.Crew and GAP, where he famously launched Old Navy, admitted to The Post that he hasn’t done anything “so small before, so intimate.”
As for the Alex Mill aesthetic, they’re aiming for a timeless, casual style, as seen on their vision board featuring photos of Kurt Cobain, Marlon Brando and a young Robert Downey Jr. “Guys are comfortable in clothes that don’t go out of style,” Drexler explained “I hardly ever throw anything out.” It’s no surprise that writer-director Greta Gerwig was seen wearing an Alex Mill jumpsuit on the set of “Barbie.”
This is “Not Your Average Office Tour” with New York Post reporter Lydia Moynihan.
