The Trouble with Fame: The Story of Scott, Amundsen, and the South Pole | Life-Long Learning

Why has the story of Robert F. Scott’s failed quest for the South Pole mesmerized people for more than a century? Why has Roald Amundsen’s actual triumph taken a back seat to Scott’s story? The answer has to do with their rhetorical skills and surrounding circumstances. Dr. Gordon Thomas will discuss the famous expeditions and why Amundsen’s leadership skills ironically were the same that kept him from being a skillful publicist.
