Victims pulled off sinking boat just in time.

At approximately 2:40pm today, we received a report of a 42’ powerboat taking on water 6.5 nautical miles offshore between Platform Gina and Anacapa Island and within the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. The report was immediately passed along and the mariner was connected to the Coast Guard.

TowBoatUS Retriever made best speed out from Channel Islands Harbor and arrived on scene first just 12 minutes after the distress call. Capt. Carson recovered all victims off the boat just minutes before the vessel sank in hundreds of feet of water.

The victims were transferred to the Coast Guard boat for transport back into safe harbor. Retriever, along with another responding towboat, remained on scene to recover all floating pollution and debris.

Always be ready for the unexpected as things happen quickly offshore.
