1) Leave the pole disassembled while you feed it through the pole sleeve, and simply hinge the pieces together as you go; using this method, you'll avoid having to awkwardly maneuver a 17 foot pole through the narrow sleeve.
2) Be aware of the three (3) snagging points that are liable to get caught in the tent pole's metal ferrules: the entry point of the flap, the interior reinforcement of the flap, and the exit of the flap.
3) The most effective way to raise your first tent pole is to brace the side already inserted into the pole pocket into the ground.
