The 2022 Maserati MC20 has been a long time coming, and the stunning mid-engined supercar is just the beginning of a new era for the historic Italian brand.

Apart from the obvious convertible version the sub-1500kg MC20’s glorious mid-mounted twin-turbo V6 will be joined by Maserati’s first all-electric powertrain, which will also power the new GranTurismo Folgore.

For now though, the Maserati MC20 is a convincing statement of intent from an Italian brand that clearly hasn’t forgotten how to flex its considerable engineering muscle, as Scott Newman discovers here.
