Andre 3000's Journey from Reject to Dream Horse
This is the story of Andre 3000. He is a BLM wild mustang from the Pine Nut HMA in NV. His age is somewhere between 8 and 12yrs old.
While taking pictures at Palomino Valley, NV BLM facility of the horses selected for the Las Vegas TIP Challenge I spotted this unique looking horse in one of the back corrals. I couldn't get close to him since I was outside the fence and he was in a inner pen. I was able to use my zoom my camera lens to snap some pictures and noticed the huge 3000 branded on his butt. I went up to the office to ask about him and the BLM said he was slated to ship to long-term holding (large pastures the government rents to store the unadoptable mustangs). I asked if they would pull him and allow us to train him through the Mustang Heritage Foundation's TIP (Trainer Incentive Program) program. They agreed as long as we picked in up in the next several days. Palomino Valley facility is a 32hr drive round trip to our ranch in Northern Arizona. We agreed without hesitation!
We anticipated Andre 3000 (named for the 3000 branded on his rear) would take awhile to gentle. He did and Isidro was very slow and patient with him. We A LOT of interest in people adopting him but one woman really stood out. She was willing to give him the time and training he needed and she was all the way in Texas! We thought this was the best home for him and she adopted him. She had Isidro train him for another 4mths to start him under saddle.
This video shows a brief summary of his journey and some of Isidro's training techniques for gentling mustangs. We hope you enjoy and feel encouraged to adopt an older mustang. They just need some time and patience but are totally worth it.
