These Assassin’s Creed Valhalla impressions are based on three hours with the game. In that time we explored East Anglia and took part in raiding parties, a wedding party, a castle siege, and several new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla boss fight. The boss fights are everything from giant dogs to elemental witches, which is wild. In this preview - note: not a full Assassin’s Creed Valhalla review - we look at how combat and stealth compare to earlier games, and explore the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla map looking for wealth and mysteries (the new way the game groups side missions). Some side missions are like GTA world events, where you help random strangers, others are more fearsome, like fighting a Fallen Drengr - optional boss fights to put Eivor to the test.

This Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PC gameplay was captured while we played the game on a remote PC, so if some of the combat is sloppy, let’s blame it on lag, yeah? We really enjoyed what we played of this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay - the combat has more punch than before and general vibe of dirty England makes a nice change from the mythologic majesty of Greece and Egypt. It actually feels like The Witcher in places, which is always nice. Anyway, I’ve broken the game down in a bit of a gameplay deep dive - talking through basic combat to more specialised fights and what you do in between those fights.
