China's Civil War 1927-49 : Rare Archival Footage

The Chinese Civil War (1927-49) was a pivotal window of time in global history - on which rested the question of which direction China's civilization would take as it reckoned with forces of modernity and imperialism, amidst the collapse of the ancien regime, and impending total war.

Ultimately, the Chinese Communist Party was victorious in the 'mainland', with the remnants of the defeated Kuomintang (KMT), fleeing to Taiwan. In a sense, the Civil War is still unresolved as the two regimes not only refuse to recognise each other but have refused to sign an armstice.

In this collection of rare archival footage, see the actual first stages of the Civil War, caught on camera - which makes it not only a montage of images right out of the pages of history, but among the first instances of 'televised' warfare.
