Catamaran with Magnus Effect Rotor Sail

Flettner rotor is built from thin 150g/sqm woven glassfiber composite.
The composite is wrapped on circular high density foam discs that are glued on the central axel that rotate about the loadbearing stationary vertical axel. The whole rotor is driven by a brushless direct current motor (BLDC) via belt. It is all mounted on a small catamaran hull.

The same rotor technology is used by Norse Power, that makes the Norse Rotor Sail. This is mounted on several large freight ships and passenger ships

The M/W Copenhagen is now called a 'hybrid ferry', but in fact the accumulated emission savings are 4-5% and up to 20% in optimal wind conditions (which is probably not both ways across the route same day) [source: https://shipandbunker.com/news/emea/584518-scandlines-completes-bunker-and-emissions-saving-rotor-sail-installation]
