Fantastic Konkan Railway Journey - Goa to Mumbai on board the Double Decker A.C. Express
A full coverage of a fabulous day time journey done on the Konkan Railway - which is one of India’s most beautiful railway routes. It is a 1 hour long video, so you can either watch it when you are really free, or you can watch it in bits and pieces also, but you will cherish every bit of it.
The journey was done by me last Saturday from Goa to Mumbai on board one of the most colourful trains as well - the 11086 Madgaon - Mumbai LTT Double Decker A.C. Express.
I took over 70 videos and 100 photos on that journey, I had a seat on the upper deck but I sat in my seat for only 2 hours of the 12 and a half hour journey. The rest of the time I was standing at the door enjoying mother nature’s beauty as well as getting impressed by the massive bridges and tunnels of the Konkan Railway. This railway line, built along the coastline, and in the midst of the Western Ghats of India, is through difficult terrain and there are a vast number of bridges and tunnels to go across valleys and through mountains. It is really a great engineering feat of Indian construction. To add to it, the maximum permissible speed of the line is 120 km/hr and it has been tested upto 160 km/hr as well. This speed on such terrain is not a joke.
The journey includes various different perspectives and views. It includes crossings and overtakes of other trains. Since it is a single line, many times we were made to wait for other trains to cross, including the premium trains like the Rajdhani Express, Tejas Express and Jan-Shatabdi Express. It also includes photographs of the Double Decker train at stations. You can also have a look as we speed on the bridges and rush into tunnels, especially as we go over the tallest viaduct - Panval River viaduct - of which the tallest pillar is 64 meters high, as well as we enter the longest tunnel - Karbude Tunnel - which is 6.5 km long!!! Lastly there are also some beautiful curves, and a speedy run in suburban Mumbai, racing with some local trains. I have also included the interiors of the train (the upper deck) in this video compilation.
We left Madgaon station bang on time at 5:30 in the morning but were made to wait for a overtake at the very next station and got delayed by 45 minutes already. Further on, made to wait for more crossings the delay went up to an hour. But finally after crossing Veer station, there seemed to be an increase in the speed and we raced through the plains and started making up solid time, in the end arriving 25 minutes before time at Mumbai LTT - at 6:05 pm. It was indeed a fabulous journey and I enjoyed every bit of it. I took so many videos to ensure that my viewers can enjoy it too.
