Before the Big Bang? Loop Quantum Cosmology’s Quantum Bounce

Before the Big Bang, classical general relativity predicts a singularity with infinite density, where the equations break down.
Loop quantum cosmology takes quantum geometry seriously and replaces that singularity with a bounce instead.

In this picture, a contracting universe reaches a maximum finite density near the Planck scale, then rebounds into expansion — so our hot Big Bang phase emerges from a previous cosmic phase, not from “nothing”.

This does not prove a multiverse or a cyclic eternity, but it shows that when quantum effects are included, the Big Bang may be a transition, not an absolute beginning.
Current work looks for possible traces of such a bounce in the early-universe physics encoded in the cosmic microwave background.
