Is GST on online gaming fair?
In our recent podcast with Former ICAI President, CA Atul Gupta, we deep dived into different slabs of GST for different categories.
For the online gaming or betting industry the GST is charged at the highest slab of 28% and for good reason.
The government keeps those products at the highest level where they want to motivate consumers to not indulge in those activities.
Just like how government charges high import tax on luxury cars to motivate consumers to buy Indian made product, online gaming is something that should be charged at higher rates.
