Why The Gothic Remake is a Gaming Miracle

The Gothic Remake is something that should have been impossible. THQ Nordic had to satisfy one of the most passionate fanbases in RPG history while modernising a game that was designed for a completely different era. For many players across much of Eastern Europe, Gothic was every bit as important as The Elder Scrolls was in the West. In this video, I break down why Gothic was so influential, why remaking it was such a difficult challenge, and how the developers managed to preserve the soul of the original while bringing it up to modern standards.

I also explore why so many remakes and remasters struggle to strike this balance, comparing Gothic to titles like Oblivion Remastered, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Resident Evil, and more. More importantly, I discuss why the success of the Gothic Remake could mean far more than the return of a beloved franchise. It could mark the revival of an entire style of RPG that has been largely absent from the mainstream for over two decades.
