Perform The Rite - Dragon Age: The Veilguard Part 18

Gameplay (No Commentary)

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a 2024 action role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. As the fourth major entry in the Dragon Age franchise, it serves as a sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition (2014). Players take on the role of Rook, a customizable protagonist tasked with stopping the elven trickster god Solas from unraveling reality. Along the way, Rook inadvertently releases two other powerful and morally ambiguous elven gods, escalating the stakes as they seek to dominate the world. The game shifts away from Inquisition's open-world design, opting instead for distinct levels accessed via fast travel. Additionally, it replaces the franchise’s traditional tactical combat with a more action-oriented system that emphasizes real-time combos.

Development began in 2015 but faced numerous delays. Originally conceived as a live-service game, The Veilguard was restructured into a single-player experience following the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019). The game's combat was influenced by God of War (2018), offering a more fluid and dynamic approach. Initially announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022, it was later rebranded to The Veilguard in June 2024. The game launched on October 31, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S, receiving generally positive reviews. It was praised for its storytelling, character development, and world-building, though it underperformed commercially, reaching 1.5 million players by the end of 2024—falling short of EA’s expectations.

Players can shape Rook’s journey by selecting their lineage (human, elf, dwarf, or qunari), class (rogue, mage, or warrior), and background faction, which significantly impacts the storyline. Unlike previous entries, the game offers extensive character customization, including independent body type selections and non-binary pronoun options. While players can recruit up to seven companions, only two can join Rook in combat at a time, and unlike past Dragon Age titles, companions are not directly controllable in battle. The game also introduces a hub-and-spoke level design, using magical portals for travel instead of a continuous open world. The Veilguard was recognized in several year-end award lists and earned nominations at The Game Awards, Golden Joystick Awards, and DICE Awards.
