How To Grow Giant Pumpkins, Part 10, Pollination

In this episode of the Mighty Gourd we get up early to hand pollinate the pumpkin. The reason for hand pollinating is to keep the genetics pure, we can control the parents of the pumpkin and selectively breed the biggest ones, also you have a higher chance of the pumpkin setting. In some cases if you leave pollination to the bees and insects the plant may not get enough pollen and abort the pumpkin. There our many reasons why the plant aborts pumpkins, the weather and temperature play a big part. With a bit of luck our one will set and we will start growing pumpkins instead of plants!
