Welcome to the Madeira Island and A&A Travelling. Madeira is an archipelago situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, around 400 km north of the Canary islands and 520 km west of Morocco. Funchal the capital is located on the main island`s south coast. Madeira`s population is approximately 250,000.

In this video we share some of the most interesting places on the island we visited during our second seven days visit in the last three months.

01.25 Cristiano Ronaldo International Madeira Airport
The Madeira Airport is one of the most challenging in Europe due wind variation and turbulence. This actually the only airport in the world with mandatory wind limit, crews have to take on extra training to land here.

01.43 Pico do Arieiro
This peak has an altitude of 1,818 m and is the island`s third higest peak. This is also one of the most popular sunrise spots.

UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, the Laurissilva Forest is a unique world natural treasure. This is a 20 million year old subtropical rainforest.

04.11 Funchal & Flower Festival
Funchal is the beautiful capital of Madeira`s archipelago with around 106,000 inhabitants.
The Flower Festival is celebrated during the month of May. May is entirely dedicated to the beauty and fragance of the flowers.

05.29 Cristo Rei
This Jesus statue was built in order to welcome the strangers who came to Madeira by sea. The statue in Garaju is 14 meters high and was built back in 1927.

05.56 Cristo Rei Cable Car
Inagurated in 2007, the modern cable car at Garajau descends 200 meters to the shores of Garajau Beach.

06.29 Câmara de Lobos, Food & Drinks
It was this traditional fishing village, situated 5 km from Funchal, which inspired Sir Winston Churchil to paint its lovely surroundings.
I spent 7 days here in May and i just loved it. The locals are very friendly and the food is delicious. I ate some delicious "Pregos no Pão" with Bolo do Caco, beef and chicken. I also
tried Picadinhos of Tuna which also can be served with beef and chicken.
I also tried "Lapas" which are molluscs that are attached to the rocks on the sea coast. They are used as starters or as a snack.
Nikita is a traditional Madeira drink that is made with a combination of ice cream, fresh pineapple, pineapple juice, and typically beer or white wine. Most versions opt for either beer or wine, but some mix both.
Poncha is another traditional drink made with aguardente de cana, honey, sugar and either orange juice or lemon juice. Some varieties include other fruit juices.
