On April 12th, 2004 four Italian contractors were taken by a fringe group within Baghdad. Operation Objective Medford was a covert mission conducted by the U.S. Army's Delta Force to rescue the men. The operation, carried out in early June 2004, was a testament to the meticulous planning and precision of Delta Force, renowned for their counter-terrorism expertise.

Intelligence indicated their location in a fortified compound in the Sunni Triangle, a hotbed of insurgent activity. Delta Force, operating under the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), swiftly mobilized.

The rescue mission involved a multi-pronged approach, with aerial surveillance, ground assault teams, and support from other U.S. Special Operations units. Under the cover of darkness, Delta operators infiltrated the compound using helicopters and ground vehicles. The element of surprise was crucial; the assault teams breached the compound's defenses with speed and precision.

A fierce firefight ensued, but the Delta operators, leveraging their superior training and equipment, neutralized the insurgents. The hostages were quickly located and evacuated. The mission was a success, demonstrating Delta Force's capability to execute high-risk rescues with minimal casualties. The Italian hostages were safely returned, marking a significant achievement in U.S. Special Operations history.
