Ingrid Bergman, For the World

This video is dedicated to my friend Claudia who contributed greatly to this video. Happy Birthday! Have the best one and may all your wishes come true!

One of two actresses to win three Oscars, Ingrid Bergman stands as perhaps the most beloved actresses. Ingrid's mother died when she was just two and her father died when she was twelve years old. Raised by her aunt and uncle, a shy, young Ingrid found acting to be her calling. Perhaps of all early classic actresses, she was least tied down in spirit to Hollywood although she was revered but her affair with Roberto Rossellini as a married women once set controversy in America where she was so popular. But Ingrid, was free as a bird, never had regrets as she was once quoted and lived her life with acting as her passion. Hollywood would easily forgive the actress who was fresh as a breath of cool Nordic wind, an actress who rarely wore make-up. Her role in Casablanca, perhaps the most beloved movie in Hollywood cemented her legacy.

Ingrid Bergman once said "I've gone from saint to whore and back to saint again, all in one lifetime," in reference to her career and roles. Ingrid was the most dedicated actress of her time, the least spoiled, the most down-to-earth, the most refreshing. Sometimes, the simplest is the most beautiful. No wonder she was considered the ideal.

Ingrid has been always among my personal favorites. I left her out by accident in my tribute to multiple Oscar winners, so perhaps this is destiny, the best way to pay tribute. She stands alone here.

Fittingly the music for this tribute is from Walkabout, the Australian film about innocence, adventure and the expansive outback in Australia. It is an allegory to Ingrid's life. In a sense, Ingrid was as nomadic and free as the lost children in the film. John Barry conducted both Walkabout themes here. Of course, besides music, there is some symbolism I used. Just have fun watching it. Movies include:

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1941)
Casablanca (1942)
Gaslight (1944)
Spellbound (1945)
Saratoga Trunk (1945)
Notorious (1946)
Joan of Arc (1948)
Anastasia (1956)
