THE PLURAL SONG
Bags hold books, students sit at tables
Cars go places, horses live in stables
Not all plurals simply take an -s
Some don't change and others are a mess

If a noun ends with these letters
Don't add -s, -es would be better
-s like in buses, -ch like in coaches
-x like in taxes, -sh like in wishes

If a noun has an -f at the end
The -f might run away, -ve might step in
Wolf turns to wolves, thief turns to thieves
But some -f’s stay like roofs and beliefs

If a noun ends with -y
-y turns to -ie like cities and skies
But if -y has a vowel before it
Just add -s like days – don’t ignore it

Some don't change when more than one appear
Like sheep and tuna and fish and moose and deer
Some nouns change randomly like dice
Child turns children and mouse turns mice

Woman turns to women and goose turns to geese
Man turns to men and tooth turns to teeth
Person becomes people and foot turns to feet
Cactus turns to cacti and this list is incomplete
