Tribute to graphic designer and visual artist Guy Schockaert

On January 11th, 2013 our graphic designer and visual artist Guy Schockaert passed away. The masterpiece to which he dedicated his last efforts, is his famous "timeline", which is still visible on the walls at Plantin, the graphic arts service company he worked for during almost a quarter of a century.

His timeline devoted to the history of graphic arts and typography requested an enormous amount of work. It is an audacious summary of the many interactions existing between humanity, man's visual environment, the history of typefaces and the printing industry.

With this inventory, Schockaert has left us a cultural, educational, yet recreational heritage that is supposed to foster sensibility and the sense of universality in a world dominated by images. Plantin is very proud to share this monumental masterpiece with this video and in print on the walls of our head office in Brussels.
