In 1999 BBC Watchdog covered the mismanagement of managing agents and the imbalance of power they have over leaseholders. Now in 2019, some 20 years later, the Government is still consulting on how to improve the feudal #leasehold system which still remains in #England and #Wales.

In October 2018, Housing Minister Heather Wheeler announced that a new working group will be set up, tasked with raising standards across the housing sector. The working group is chaired by Lord Best, an independent cross bencher. The group will look at ways to improve standards for home buyers, sellers, tenants, landlords and leaseholders. The working group will submit its final report in summer 2019 after which next steps will be announced.
