The hero. The rugged individualist. The shining beacons of hope we turn to when things are looking tough. They're shoulders to lean on, forces to guide us, bastions of change and progress. Or are they? Let's take some time to reexamine the role of the hero and see if they truly live up to the standards we hold them to. Because, especially in light of the climate crisis, we may soon find them falling short of our expectations. Introduced to the world of environmental advocacy in middle school, Jacob has spent the past six years working with environmental nonprofits and his school community to increase awareness and action on environmental issues. He hopes to work alongside his peers to create a better and more just world for all while redefining what exactly it means to be an advocate in the midst of an ever-changing world.
