2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line vs Golf Alltrack

It's time to finally figure out which vehicle is the best, the tried-and-true station wagon, or the ready-for-soccer-practice crossover. Our Showdown is on the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Highline and 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack.

Special thanks to Volkswagen St-Hyacinthe for making this episode of TestDrive Showdown possible with the use of their 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Highline R-Line. Find out more about their dealership here: https://www.vwst-hyacinthe.qc.ca/en

We always do things differently here at TestDrive, and this Showdown is no different. Volkswagen has been making station wagons for decades, and the Mk7 Golf Alltrack is one of the most popular so far, but does it have what it takes to continue selling well when crossovers offer what Canadian buyers ultimately want? We wanted to find out once and for all.

We've taken the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan Highline with optional R-Line package and put it up against the 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack with optional driver's assistance package. On the exterior both vehicles have adaptive front LED headlights, halogen fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry with push-button start, panoramic sunroofs, heated outside mirrors, and LED rear lighting.

Safety tech on the Golf includes blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning with emergency braking, rain sensing wipers, automatic high beams, and lane keep assist. The Tiguan also has the option for a driver's assist package which would add those features along with a 360º surround view camera and remote starter. The Tiguan also comes with a power rear lift gate and power folding mirrors.

Inside both vehicles have similar technology, with an 8" infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM Radio, Navigation, and a Fender audio system, 9 speakers on the Golf Alltrack and 8 on the Tiguan. Both vehicles also have selectable drive modes, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, power driver's seat, rear air vents, power up and down windows, and LED interior lighting. The Tiguan also adds a USB and 12V outlet in the rear seating area, VW's digital cockpit, and a heated steering wheel.

We also go over the different dimensions for both vehicles inside and out and how they might affect the overall space either vehicle has.

We take both the Tiguan and Golf Alltrack on road tests around Saint Hyacinthe to talk about how each of their inline 4 turbocharged engines perform, along with their 4motion all-wheel drive. We go over the rest of the driving dynamics and performance of each vehicle to figure out which one might be the best option for you.
