James Ingram with Michael McDonald ~ Yah Mo B There 1983 Funky Purrfection Version

This one is dedicated to my friends niecy and Henry, you're always in my heart, love you two much and think of you often. I know this one is a little outside the program, but it just feels right to put it out there right now. I'll still be posting something from 1979 this Saturday. James Ingram born in Akron, Ohio February 16, 1952. After he moved to Los Angeles when he was of age, he joined Revelation Funk and attained some attention by appearing in the film "Dolemite" a blaxploitation flick from 1975. Ray Charles hired him as a keyboardist while his brother Philip signed to Motown in the group Switch (Best Beat In Town). A few years later he did some guest vocals on Quincy Jones "The Dude" from 1980, taking "Just Once" to #17 pop and "One Hundred Ways" to #14 in 1981. 1982 saw him hit the top of the pop chart with Patti Austin on "Baby, Come To Me". His next charting release was "Yah Mo B There" which listed him as a solo artist, but then had to share the billing with Michael McDonald on subsequent pressings. Michael McDonald was everywhere after leaving the Doobie Brothers, but then he was already working with the likes of Kenny Loggins and Steely Dan before his departure. He was a frequent guest vocalist on so many songs that by the time he recorded "On My Own" with Patti Labelle, it almost did not get released as a single because McDonald felt he would be overexposing himself. The union of the these two powerhouse voices on "Yah Mo" certainly made me listen to the lyrics. Maybe you should too, I've been singing this one straight through for several days now...and that bassline at 5:12 is totally wicked! Check it out
