It is with great sadness that the ReddyRockedThe70s Channel announce the passing of a legend, Helen Reddy. This channel will continue to display her videos for this generation and for future generations to appreciate her greatness. There will never again be a voice like hers!

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to Traci Donat (daughter), Jordan Sommers (son), Lily Donat (granddaugher), Toni Lamond (sister), Tony Sheldon (nephew), Jeff Wald (second husband), Pamela Barber NeeDever (cousin) and the rest of Helen's family that I may have left out.

On a personal note, I would like to express how much Helen Reddy has meant in my life. In 1971 I discovered Helen's music by accident. I attended a Catholic school in New York City and we had many nuns who taught us. One particular nun used to bring 45 RPM singles with religious/moral content into class so we could listen to the words and learn from them. She brought in records like Put Your Hand in the Hand by Ocean, Amen by the Impressions, Get Together by the Youngbloods etc. But one fine day she brought in a song called I Don't Know How to Love Him by an unknown artist named Helen Reddy. When I heard this heavenly voice emanating from the small record player she used to bring to class I was mesmerized--I just had to get that record!

I saved up my lunch money, 10 or 25 cents a day, to go to the local record store to buy that record; from that moment on I was hooked on the singer and that amazing voice! I made sure I purchased every single and album that she ever recorded and even records where she only appeared on one track! I also purchased concert programs, T shirts, coffee mugs etc.

From 1971 up until today I was a HUGE fan! Subsequently, I joined Reddy Fans United and the Helen Reddy Fan Club East and learned where and when Helen would be appearing and what new music and movies she was going to release.

Fast forward 49 years to September 29, 2020 when I was informed of her passing and I felt that the world stopped! As I could not hold back tears I realized that on that day the music died!

But of course Helen would go out with huge fanfare! Not only did every single major news network and entertainment show pay tribute to her life, but I came to find out that the album Helen Reddy's Greatest Hits had reached NUMBER ONE on iTunes! I was overjoyed that Helen finally received the respect she deserved! As Helen once had sung on a song called Play Me Out: "If you play me out with music I can go!" And with that Number 1 showing on iTunes, her fans really did play her out!

Goodbye my sweet lady, Keep On Singing!

Philip
