How to Paint Light | A Study inspired by Sam Does Arts

Finally back to making some art videos in the new year and wanted to take the opportunity to learn something new! I've been a big fan of Sam Yang's (Sam Does Arts) artwork for a while now and wanted to get some practice at drawing a character in a convincing lighting environment. This video is a brief break down of my process for studying his work and finding my own ways of how to draw light.

Overall, this video is a little different from what I usually do and it starts with a quick analysis of Sam's art and how he manipulates color within his work to create convincing light on his characters. Then I do a quick practice exercise before finally creating my own full piece! Overall, it was a lot of fun and I feel like I learned a lot. Hope you guys enjoy it!

I know Sam recently (early/mid-January) did a lighting tutorial on his Patreon. I have not participated/seen anything from that class and nothing in this video is intended to encroach upon or steal anything from Sam. I am simply just a fan of his art and trying to study his pieces to find ways I can improve my own work.
