UHN Teaching the World
In 2008 Dr. Megan Landes of the University Health Network Emergency Department got a call. Would she be interested in partnering with Addis Ababa University to establish an Emergency Medicine program in Ethiopia? The challenge being - at that time Ethiopia had no academic program for teaching Emergency Medicine. Four years later, along with co-founder Dr. James Maskalyk of the Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration for Emergency Medicine (TAAAC), Dr. Landes is about to witness the first graduating class of Emergency doctors in a country of 80 million people. And equally important, the establishment of a teaching program that will train future doctors in Ethiopia, and beyond. Dr. Landes' story demonstrates the University Health Network mission -- Local Accountability, Global Impact.
