STOP Killing Your E-Bike Controller – Do THIS When You Replace It
If your e-bike suddenly won’t turn on, the motor won’t spin, or the display won’t do anything, there’s a very good chance it’s not your battery or your motor… it’s the controller. As a bike mechanic, I see this all the time. Riders replace the controller and accidentally fry the brand-new one before the bike even leaves the garage.
In today’s video, I’m walking you step-by-step through removing and installing an e-bike controller, using an Aventon Pace 500 as the example. I’ll show you exactly where the controller lives, which cables matter, and how to safely wire everything back together — without bending pins, mismatching connectors, or cooking your new controller.
I’m also breaking down the 4 most common mistakes that kill e-bike controllers:
Misaligning the connector arrows and bending the pins
Installing the wrong voltage controller (36V vs 48V vs 52V)
Crossing your red and black power wires
Powering the controller with no motor or sensors attached
If you follow this guide, you’ll keep your controller safe — and get your bike rolling smooth again.
Whether you ride an Aventon, Lectric, Denago, Rad Power, or any hub-motor e-bike, this process is nearly identical. Grab a screwdriver, a flashlight, a few zip ties and let’s get into it.
