Understanding The Roman Army: An Insight Into Incredible Technology & Tactics

Over 2000 years ago the Roman army was the best equipped army in the world. Architects across the Roman empire had mastered the art of manipulating stone and concrete while the Roman military leaders and engineers have fashioned metal and wood to create devastating weapons of war. They fashioned a close, fearsome sword called the Gladius which was double edged with a sharp point used for stabbing and thrusting. Then for long range combat, their spear, called a pilum, could cause havoc from a distance.

Roman armies were also super succesful due their intelligent tactics. From creating testudo's, latin for Tortoise, they'd bunch together and lock their shields in formation to create a protective screen, a formation as effective in attack, as it is in defence. The combination of technology and tactics makes the Roman army one of the best examples of a fighting force in history.
