Look Around, The Stage is Everywhere! | Aashi Chandalia | TEDxElproIntlSchool
Miss Chandalia shares her journey of falling in love with the stage with her listeners. A journey with its fair share of ups and downs, marked with an exhaustive chase of monsters! Monsters that lived in her head, brought to life through social conditioning and fear of judgement. The kind of judgement that said, “You do not belong here”. Dwelling upon these thoughts, the monsters multiplied- until, from a monster called ‘over-thinking’, arrived another monster named ‘inadequacy’. From that stemmed another monster named ‘confusion’. Miss Chandalia notes, “the thing about fears and these monsters in general is that they will chase you wherever you go, no matter how far. So, the best thing to do is to turn around and face them.” She urges her listeners to “say hello to your fear” and to “fairly assess yourself”. Identifying the areas that one needs to work upon, according to her, is the best way to confront fears. And as a piece of advice, she adds, “while you are at it, you might as well should enjoy the process and show up for yourself.” At age 5, when most children played outdoors, Aashi stood in front of the mirror addressing her make-believe audience.
At the age of 6, she began learning a rather unique dance form for its time- Indian folk dance.
At age 7, Aashi began her journey in the field of drama and communication skills.
And by the time she was 8 and 9, she was also singing in various competitions, and springing at every opportunity she got to speak with a mic! All of this, just so she could be on stage!
Aashi is currently working with a skill development organization based out of Mumbai. Over the years, she has positively impacted the lives of 1000+ students from across India and the Middle East teaching them the art of communication, public speaking and other soft skills. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
