STS-51F launch, abort & landing (7-29-85)
STS-51F, the first and only launch abort in shuttle history. The center main engine shuts down due to a faulty temperature reading just over five minutes into the mission, forcing an Abort to Orbit (ATO). July 29, 1985. The shuttle reached orbit successfully firing the two remaining engines an additional minute, and following the mission landed eight days later as planned.
