Hiking the 6 day/100km+ Amatola trail in Eastern Cape, South Africa, 2020

The hardest 6 day / 5 night trail in South Africa - Amatola (or Amathole). Located in Eastern Cape about two hours from East London the Amathole Trail starts and ends in the Hogsback Village. We stayed at the Away With the Ferries lodge (and camp site) . As you can see in the video it's a tough trail that adds up to about 110-120 kilometers depending on how much you get lost (the trail is very well marked but not perfect) and if you decide to do Amatola Plus on day 6. If you don't get lost and don't do the Plus it's about 100 km. Over half of the trail is in the untouched (indigenous) forest with looks out points. It crosses many streams, rivers, and canyons. Amatola trail is known for its waterfalls and we saw many. When you're not in the forest you see spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. I highly recommend this trail.
