elliott smith: a happy collection

just like they tried to box him into folk genres and nick drake comparisons, people will try to say that elliott smith was the saddest man in the land. that he was a sad sack, a loner, a tortured artist. and while he got so much less than he deserved, and sure his life was tragic, elliott smith was nothing short of a badass. he was not some two dimensional cartoon character with one emotion painted on his face. he was a real, human being with complex feelings and a big heart and he was one of the only ones with enough guts to show it. he truly opened his heart and poured it out to the crowd every night and for that he is known for being forever and only sad. so let’s not forget that just as he was sad, angry, and hurt, he was humble, caring, intelligent, funny, and god was he talented. he is a beautiful soul. so here i present you a tiny fraction, a sliver of who elliott smith was. these are some of his happier moments, him smiling, laughing. this is not to glorify elliott, or push him into another box. this is to bring justice and show how he was so much more than his sadness, which he conquered every day. so here’s to you, elliott. all that you’ve done and all that you’ve been, has only grown since you’ve been gone.
