Description
Axel, Adam and Blaze - ex-cops, the solution to punk pollution. The city's a war zone, and they're going out two at a time to give the gangs a kick in the guts. This is the ultimate in street combat. These city fighters are martial arts maniacs with a battery of 40 individually controllable attacks - including jabs, head butts, and overhead kicks. They're up against a mob of Kung-Fu creeps and axe-hurling fiends. On the streets it's only two of them against hordes of attacking scum. Slam into pipe-wielding weirdos and bash 'em with their own metal. Throw an uppercut or an elbow smash - these goons keep comin'!

Game Trivia
On the cover of the English version of Streets of Rage, the word SEGA can be spotted on Axel's left shoe.

The game's sound test has an unused option called "SE 47" which would normally play a sound effect but plays nothing at all. This option is still in the game's code but cannot be seen without hacking the game.

On the title screen, all three characters have complete sprites, but are obscured by overlapping. Adam and Blaze are rendered on the same background layer, making it impossible to show the full sprites even when disabling graphic layers with an emulator. Adam's sprite is also lowered off-screen by 4 pixels, presumably so he wouldn't cut into the title logo.

The enemy character Souther has three palettes, but one of them was left unused. In this unused palette, he has red hair and wears a green shirt and yellow overalls. This palette is still in the game's code and can be accessed with cheat devices and is fully functional when you fight this character.

There is an unused, higher pitched version of Adam's voice clip in the game that can be accessed with cheat devices. Why this voice clip wasn't used isn't known.
