Using Chicken Wire To Trap Wolverine and Lynx!!!
This trapping technique - used by Kevin and Joanie Schaub [1] in the wolverine-rich region of Steen River Alberta ("Trapping Inc" series) - seemed a worthwhile focus for a how-to video.
Our trapline, over 100 kms north of Wabasca Alberta, is known to have wolverine as well, so we are giving this method a try this season. In the meantime, here is a video showing basically how the method works and why.
According to Kevin, this style of pen's success may be based on wolverines concluding the wire mesh surrounding it is the actual trap so - thinking they have it figured out - they enter where the conibear is placed.
A large chunk of bait (to make it worth their taking a risk) seems important as well, as is the absence of any roof covering.
