Transferring! Climbing Stairs! - Spinal Cord Injury

Hey everyone! This week I am talking about and demonstrating transfers. Transferring is a great skill to learn to gain more independence and to be able to access more places. At the beginning I used to use a transfer board to get from my wheelchair to other places. Over time I didn't need to use the transfer board. It definitely takes times to transition from the board to nothing.

I enjoy doing floor transfers so I can go up and down stairs to get into homes without ramps and also to be on multiple levels. There are many different ways to get up and down from a wheelchair. Keep on trying and trying until you find a technique that works best for you. My physical therapist showed me how to get up from the side of my chair and it didn't work that well, but once I kept on practicing I was able to find a technique that works best for me. Keep on trying and you'll get it! :D
