Riding the ISLE OF MAN RAILWAY in 1965

Back in 1965 the three foot gauge Isle Of Man Railway was in a bad way. Only one loco was in operable condition. And there were still two lines to run. I seem to recall that the Port Erin line had two trains a day and the one trip to Peel was run between these – or maybe it was the other way round? Parcels, and Passengers Luggage In Advance from the mainland, seemed to be the main activities. Douglas Station still had two island platforms, they still had canopies.
Nowadays marketed as the Isle Of Man Steam Railway (to distinguish from the Manx Electric) the remaining Port Erin line’s fortunes have revived. The seasonal service runs up to six trains a day.
