We need to talk about impostor syndrome

Impostor (or imposter) syndrome seems to be having a massive impact on people's productivity and research, not to mention their wellbeing. So why aren't we talking about it more? This was going to just be a vlog on my second channel, but I decided that it was too big of an issue not to put here.

All the links, tweets and more of my thoughts here: https://storify.com/sallylepage/impostor-syndrome
(This was cut down from me talking for 45 minutes on the topic, so I decided it would be much more effective to put a lot of the content in the Storify version, including the Dunning-Kruger effect, the role of stupidity in science and why men might not be as open about it)

UPDATE: Thank you all so much for your incredible comments. I have read every one and am (slowly) endeavouring to reply to them all, and it means a lot to be able to read your experiences and that this may have helped in some way. I also highly recommend making a YouTube video about Impostor Syndrome and posting it on your Twitter where your supervisor will see it, thus starting a very important dialogue between the two of you on this topic so they know what you are going through. It really, really helps (thanks, Stu!) :)
