Jessica Watson inspires - This is My Australia

This is My Australia looks at the inspiring stories of recipient and nominees of the Australian Of The Year Awards.

Solo sailor Jessica Watson was named Young Australian of the Year in 2011.

From the age of 12, Jessica Watson dreamt of sailing solo, unassisted, non-stop around the world, and at the age of 16 she made it happen. Her voyage inspired thousands of people of all ages to take up sailing, and has shown that if you put your mind to it you can achieve what may at first seem impossible.

When asked to name three Australians that inspired her great adventure, Jessica named her older sister Emily, fellow solo yachtsman Jesse Martin and world surfing champion Layne Beachley.
