Dharmesh Shah, Co-Founder and CTO of HubSpot, kicked off our morning session. Alongside Lily Lyman, Underscore VC Partner, he talked about everything from recruiting entrepreneurial talent, to acting early to avoid diversity debt, to staying focused on SMB customers (despite pressure from investors to move up market), maintaining transparency while going public, to developing HubSpot’s famed Culture Code. One of HubSpot’s core values is transparency. Leading up to IPO, they made every employee a designated insider so everyone could access all the company information. “We share everything with everyone in the company unless it’s illegal to do so, or it’s not our information to share,” he said.
