There's a whole pile of EVs designed and engineered with enthusiasts' hearts in mind, and the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack is one of the most radical attempts yet. Until now, the Charger nameplate has been most associated with displacement-heavy pushrod V-8s, sending power to their rear axles. The new car is an all-wheel-drive EV. That's an abrupt change for Dodge's hardcore fan base, one that has eaten up every last wild Hellcat iteration of the old car.

It could be easy to get swept away by Dodge's "electric muscle car" marketing claims, but from the driver's seat, the reality is the new Charger Daytona is more like every other EV on the market than you might expect. Yes, it's cool to see a two-door electric coupe, and it sure does make a lot of noise, but the ultimate substance here is far from revolutionary. That doesn't stop it from being great, though.

The Charger Daytona sits on an all-new platform—STLA Large—which will ultimately accommodate several other punchy EVs. The Scat Pack sits at the top of the tree and makes use of two identical electric motors, one at each axle, to deliver a claimed 630 hp and up to 670 hp for 10 seconds when using the Power Shot overboost function. Peak system torque is 627 lb-ft.

As is often the case with EV performance claims, asterisks abound. At launch, the Scat Pack gets what is described as the Stage 2 upgrade kit as standard, this responsible for 80 hp of the system peak. In subsequent model years that will become an optional extra, dropping the Scat Pack's standard output to 590 hp. A big 100.5-kWh battery (93.9 kWh usable) is standard, but Dodge only claims an underwhelming 241 miles of range from it. So efficiency isn't the Charger's strongest suit.
