A Time for Antitrust Reform in the United States and European Union
After a decades-long trend of consolidation in digital markets, the United States and European Union have both reached a pivotal moment in antitrust legal reform. The European Parliament and Council are in the final stages of approval of the Digital Markets Act, a new framework to prevent anticompetitive practices by “gatekeepers,” or select dominant digital platforms. Meanwhile, the U.S. House and Senate are considering a handful of bills to mitigate similar competition concerns related to large technology platforms, proposing new rules related to self-preferencing, network effects, data accumulation, interoperability, and more.
Join CSIS for a panel discussion on the unique competition issues associated with large technology platforms, as well as the privacy, security, and content moderation questions that surround pending U.S and EU antitrust legislative frameworks. The panel will feature Bill Baer, Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution, Krisztian Katona, Vice President of Global Competition and Regulatory Policy at CCIA, Ana Malheiro, Professional Staff Member at the Secretariat of the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee (IMCO), and Charlotte Slaiman, Competition Policy Director at Public Knowledge.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
