Black 5 45110 at the Great Dorset Steam Fair 24/08/2019

Out of service but definitely not out of use, Ex-LMS 'Black 5' Class 5MT - 45110 paid a visit to the South attending the 51st rendition of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, visiting from its home at the Severn Valley Railway.

The locomotive stakes a claim to fame as one of the four steam locos to work the "Fifteen Guinea Special" on the 11th of August 1968 - the final steam-hauled service under British Railways. Having been purchased direct from BR, 45110 would become an SVR resident as of 1970, last steaming in the summer of 2008 prior to the expiry of its boiler ticket.

The Black 5, now awaiting its turn in the overhaul queue, would provide a dead-weight load for hauling around "The Play Pen" Heavy Haulage Arena at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. The presence of a railway loco being used in this manner becoming something of a pastime at the event.
