I love a good black and white edit! This tutorial/demonstration in "black and white mastery" shows how I use tools and techniques in Luminar AI to create a soft photo edit that still contains plenty of contrast and visual interest for the viewer.

Making a good monochrome photo is far more complex than simply converting our color photos to greyscale. It's about guiding our viewer's attention to the important areas of the photo and minimising distracting elements.

The concepts are universal so this is how to create great B&W images is relevant for Lightroom and Photoshop users even though I'm showing the process in Luminar AI. As is often the case with my editing I turn my back on a lot of the automatic AI features in favour of taking more control over my photo processing.
