Where should you place your fill light when taking photos in a studio setting? In this video, Patrick Hall of Fstoppers examines how placing your fill light in different locations can affect the shadows on your images. Using a Profoto B10x and two 3' octaboxes, six different images are created ranging from a single key light to a key light with a subtle fill light added. Is it best to add fill light direct above your camera or should you place your fill light on the shadow side of your model to help open the shadows up even more? Would it ever make sense to add a fill light to the same side of the model that your key light is positioned? Today we find out how all these different positions affect the look of your photography, which ones look the most natural and artificial, and which location might be best for your own photography.
