Hours after Donald Trump celebrated what he called a historic breakthrough with Iran, cracks are already appearing inside Washington. Is the U.S. heading toward a diplomatic triumph, or could it be walking into another Middle East miscalculation?
According to reports, CIA Director John Ratcliffe privately warned Trump and senior officials that U.S. intelligence has serious doubts about Iran’s willingness to make the nuclear concessions Washington demands. But Ratcliffe is not alone. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have also reportedly expressed concerns over the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding.
The disagreement has exposed a rare divide within Trump’s inner circle. While officials like Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and adviser Jared Kushner reportedly back the agreement, critics fear Tehran could use the deal to secure strategic and diplomatic gains without truly giving up its nuclear ambitions.
The bigger question now is whether Trump’s promise of ending the Iran crisis can survive resistance from both sides — hardliners inside Tehran who oppose compromise and skeptics inside Washington who believe Iran cannot be trusted.
