Babi Yar today (Kyiv, Ukraine, 2017)

A montage of video, taken in August 2017 within Babi Yar (Babyn Yar) in Kyiv, Ukraine. Infamous Holocaust symbol. A place, where ap. 70,000 people were killed during German occupation in 1941-1943. The location is also sadly remembered because of the Syrets Concentration Camp which once stood next to the ravine and was used by the Nazis to hold in custody and kill Soviet prisoners of war.

I visited the Babyn Yar ravine area and the nearby locations numerous times and this video includes the following sites of historical importance:

- The upper spurs of the Babyn Yar ravine
- The Soviet Memorial opened in 1976
- A Cross devoted to Ukrainian patriots
- Memorial on the site of the former Syrets Concentration Camp
- Memorial to the executed patients of the Pavlov Mental Clinic
- A monument to Tetiana Markus, a famous Ukrainian Jewish underground fighter killed by the Nazis in 1943 and buried in Babi Yar
- An old Soviet military cemetery
- Monument to “Children shot in Babi Yar”
- Memorial to Ostarbeiters
