🇬🇧 London circa 2015-2017: Our first baby ⬇️
So many wonderful memories, so many doses of reality as new 🇮🇪🇨🇦 parents with our firstborn son. ⬇️
As someone who experienced an emergency c-section with our first baby born in 2016 in England, without family or support living nearby, I am loving this campaign.
I was fortunate to receive care from the NHS, via Camden midwives, GP and local hospital but when things took an unexpected turn after 20+ hours and my partner still had to go back to work two weeks postpartum, it was Nana and later Grandpa, who both flew over from Canada to help me get around London and to appointments with a newborn until he was six weeks old.
I didn't know anything about the procedure as I didn't expect to have it, add in breastfeeding a newborn, no dishwasher or dryer in our flat, being unable to lift more than his weight and trying to navigate Transport for London, I couldn't have done it all alone.
Nearly 10 years on, not much has changed and the statistics from Pregnant Then Screwed show things have slid backwards for discrimination and unfair dismissals in the UK...looking forward to seeing how this campaign from them and The Dad Shift plays out!
At least it will stop people in their tracks, a dose of reality and calling it out for what it is, always a great idea. 📢✨️
