Antenna build and review - The KM4ACK EFHW antenna kit is simple, compact and efficient
I spent some time building and testing the End Fed Half Wave antenna. It's a kit by KM4ACK. It's a compact lightweight antenna that is perfect for portable ham radio operations. Overall I'm very happy with this long wire antenna and it works great with my ICOM 7300.
Ham radio is a hobby that gives me another excuse to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. I enjoy working from remote areas or activating a park for Parks on the Air and having an antenna that fits in a small bag and works well is just what I needed.
KM4ACKs website claims the "kit includes everything you need to build a 49:1 end fed half wave antenna. The antenna works without needing a tuner on 10M, 15M, 20M & 40M with SWR ≤ 2:1 Easy to build! Just wind the toroid, solder 3 joints, connect the wire, and you are on the air. There's also an easy to follow assembly video. Weighs ~6oz when complete. 50W SSB ~ 20W Digital/CW. Perfect for portable ops. Great first antenna project!"
I found that I still need to use my tuner to get this antenna where it want's to be, but that's no problem with my built in tuner. I use this antenna with 90W SSB and have had no issues with it. Overall I would recommend the EFHW antenna kit by KM4ACK!
