DIY or BUY?? A Garland Tutorial!
With so many wedding DIYs out there, I wanted to put some of these tutorials to the test. Is it really worth it to do it yourself? Find out with this week's video on DIY or BUY?? A Garland Tutorial!
Greenery Used:
Lemon Leaf (or Salal)
Seeded Eucalyptus
Italian Ruscus
Israeli Ruscus
Supplies Needed:
Pruning shears
Needle nose pliers
26 gauge paddle wire
5 (ish) feet of medium thickness rope
After pre-making quite a number of mini green bouquets and fastening them together with the wire, I set to wiring each of them directly to the rope, starting on one end and working my way towards the other.
About halfway through, I flipped the direction of the bouquets to give the garland a clear center, and to provide visual interest. Obviously, I learned the hard way that this was a bad idea! Next time, I'd say work from each end towards the center to avoid my mistake.
After attaching all of the prepped greens, I went back through and used the thicker Israeli Ruscus to add fullness, cover the wire and rope mechanics, and reinforce the strength of the garland.
And guess what? It worked!
I did realize, however, that this was a HUGE undertaking. All in all, this one teensy little garland took me two hours to assemble. Ugh. I couldn't imagine doing this over and over and over again until I had enough for all my tables.
I'd definitely say this is a BUY, not a DIY!
